Domain name servers, or DNS, are the brains behind the internet. The DNS system forms one of the largest and most active distributed databases in the world. Without DNS the internet would not be able to operate and even cease existence.
DNS translates domain names into IP addresses. You use a domain name to send an e-mail or perform a search on the internet. For example if you use the URL http://www.i-evolve.com, the domain name is i-evolve.com. Each time you use the internet the domain name server uses the domain name and translates it into an IP address allowing the machine to read it.
